MCCHoir - Beat the winter blues Now!15/6/2015 A new singing group has been launched in partnership with BeyondBlue to fundraise, raise awareness of anxiety, depression and suicide, and encourage hope.
Melbourne Contemporary Choir (MCChoir), which rehearses at Bianca Fenn School of Music 1/27 Simms Road, Greensborough, cites a University of Queensland study that shows singing contributes to well being and relaxation, helps breathing and posture, provides social and spiritual benefits, and aids the heart and the immune system. Other studies note that singing reduces the stress hormone cortisol and releases ‘feel good’ hormones. MCChoir caters for adults (16+) and aims to be a place “where people find a voice” and are encouraged to develop their craft as well as enjoying all the benefits that singing brings in managing stress in our busy lives. Creative director Jason Simmonds says the choir, which performs with a live band, covers many song styles, including pop, rock, RnB, soul, musical theatre and gospel. “I want to create musical experiences which connect with wide audiences and communicate our love of music in ways that really impact our community” Jason says. MCChoir are hosting a free vocal workshop from 7.30 p.m. on Thursday evening, 25th June. No previous singing experience is required and the group is always open to new members.
