mcchoir - "we don't have to be ordinary"

How great was it to get together for our first rehearsal and Vocal Workshop. From the very start of the night everyone was interacting and getting to know one another and there was a real sense of community. The venue was set and I think there were a few surprised faces when people entered the space. It was so good to hear comments like "I've found my place" & "I think I'll just have to register for the whole year" because one of our values is to 'belong' people first, so that they feel comfortable and able to experience mcchoir and develop their craft.

It was amazing singing with the live band towards the end of the night and a big thankyou goes to Dayna and Jared for jamming with us. Thanks Dayna also for sharing your birthday night with us as well. Antonio Ramos also took some great shots (thanks Antonio) and we did a rough recording of the new Shawn Mendez song "Life of the Party"which sounds amazing especially given most of you had never heard the song before - you can listen to the recording on our homepage.  I love the line that says "we don't have to be ordinary" because my vision for mcchoir is that we will be much more than ordinary - that we will be extraordinary. If you missed out on the launch - don't foget to check us out! Choir has changed and remember your first rehearsal is FREE!

There was such a buzz the whole night and one of the highlights for me personally was catching up with so many people that I haven't seen in many years, as well as having work colleagues and family and friends come and share the night with us. This week you are in for another great night as we will be learning a new arrangement of the king of pop's song "Man in the Mirror" that you are going to love. One comment we had during the week after someone had heard our recording online, was how long had we been together. They had a very surprised expression on their face when we told them that it was our first rehearsal - they couldn't believe it!

A big thankyour to Dayna and Bianca from Bianca Fenn School of Music for the use of their premises. These guys are amazing and together with Ezekiel (mcchoir accompanist) we did a radio spot at Plenty Valley FM 88.6 during the week with Denise Kutchmar. Keep an eye out for the video recording of the interview coming soon. Thanks Denise for giving us some time to tell our community about this fresh and exciting choir for adults (16+).

Be sure to register on line if you havent done so already and see you all Thursday night 7:30pm for another exciting rehearsal together. Invite your friends - we really need more guys to fill out our tenor and bass line.

Planning is well underway for our launch in just over a week on the 14th May at 7:30pm (Bianca Fenn School of Music) 1/27 Simms Road Greensborough. We will be covering some basics on good vocal technique, singing safely and producing a unified, blended sound – you won’t want to miss a minute. We will be learning some new material and getting to know each other over coffee and supper, you’re in for a great night.

Melbourne Contemporary Choir “belongs” people first, then we work with members to help them achieve their best voice and together create musical experiences that are shared with our community and beyond. Yes MCChoir is a place where people find a voice, but we also hope you will see the value we place on bringing people together who have a love of music, to build lasting relationships and enjoy making music together.

Together we will achieve something bigger than anything we could do on our own. To that end we will also be announcing our charity partner on the night, so it would be great if you could bring a gold coin to put in during supper.

Just to let you in on some exciting news – I’ve just finished our first arrangement of a new song from Mary J Blige The London Sessions – in fact most of the music we will be doing will be arranged fresh just for us – which means we will have a unique voice in our community. We have also commissioned our first arrangement by Jared Hasheck who amongst his many roles, writes for Hal Leonard.

I’m so excited to meeting you all together for the first time, the venue is going to blow you away if you haven’t been there before! Any pre-conceived ideas you have about choir, leave them at home. Choir has changed! Check it out! Feel free to bring along a guest on the night there will be a special announcement for foundation members which you are going to love.

Look forward to seeing you all at our Workshop Taster
